His real name is Ontoros Bin Buyusan bin Yontoros. The title Antanom is a monicker given by the British during his uprising. It is basically a word corruption of anti-Nomad and anti-Tenom. By time Antanom became synonimous with this warrior.He was born in 1873 in Kampung Silar Pilikat in Rundum. Silar Pilikit lies nearby Masinpuoan at the edge of Ulu Sungai Tahol, Pensiangan. Ontoros is the third child in his family.

His grandfather Yontoros played a pivotal part in raising him. The arts of hunting, forest survival, leadership and fighting were instilled to him since young. It was said that he learnt the mystic arts at a young age as well.

Ontoros has 2 wife named Sunuron and Sunsuyon. They were blessed with a total of 7 children. Out of the child, his only son is named Ampiris bin Ontoros. Ampiris passed away on 20th October 2001 in Kampung Lima, Nabawan. He was 91 years old at the time.

LEGACY:
Ontoros has been posthumously bestowed with the title of Seri Panglima Darjah Kinabalu, which is the state’s highest honor. The title was bestowed to him on 16 September 2002.

Furthermore in Tenom, the city hall was named Dewan Sri Antanom. There’s also a museum dedicated to Antanom at the heart of the city.
